If you eat something, but no one else sees you eat it, it has no calories.

Lewis Grizzard

It’s always sunny … except when it’s very dark and scary over in the Heritage subdivision.

Welcome back to Wake Forest Today this week where the sun truly is shining. Many thanks to Carolyn Kassel who submitted a photo of her son and daughter-in-law’s marvelously decorated house. Kassel says, “It’s the talk of the Heritage neighborhood.” We imagine so.

Got a great Halloween photo? … send it to us.

The Lewis Grizzard quote is for all parents like myself who will sort candy next week sneaking a few Snickers’ bars when the children aren’t looking.

Lots of fun and bling  today at Chamber EXPO from 3 -7 at Ledford Center

Don’t forget to attend the Wake Forest Chamber’s Business/Family Expo today. We will have a booth for Sojourner Publishing, Inc., the parent company of Wake Forest Today and The Paper Journey Press.

Bring the kids to meet Willow the Wicked Witch, aka WFH senior Melissa Trainer, PPJ’s Junior Publicist. What is a junior publicist, you ask? In Melissa’s case, she is our intern in charge of social media marketing for Bob Peace’s newest book The Wicked Witch Pop Quiz. Plus she gets to dress up in a cool costume.

Heritage Records and Principal of the Year

What do Heritage Records and WCPSS Principal of the Year have in common? Principal Mark Savage, who was recently named Principal of the Year for his leadership in making every student welcome and offering opportunities for students to thrive.

Because of our little story on Heritage Records, we have been very busy here directing the massive traffic visiting the site which has held up well without a single blip or outage in performance. 6Suns, Inc. has done a remarkable job building this site. Thanks to the people of Wake Forest we have had a record breaking 3000 unique visitors in the past couple of weeks. We are astounded and grateful.

Many thanks to David Williams Photography for the professional photos of Mr. Bullock’s team of young recording artists. We hope the young men raise the $3,000 they need for a recording studio. Hey! WCPSS help these guys out.

On a personal note, I was very happy to see that WRAL News picked up the Heritage Records story. It felt like the good old days when my stories were picked up by the Associated Press. We are always on the lookout for interesting stories. Please send us your ideas.

Cultural Arts Center soon to be ready for prime time

This week, we had the great pleasure of hearing Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones speak at the Wakefield Rotary Club about the renovations to the new Renaissance Center. We had a fantastic lunch of fajitas, beans and rice, salad and sweet tea. Thanks to Wakefield Rotarian Steve Arrington for inviting us. Please see the related story in this week’s Wake Forest Today.

The Wakefield Rotary Club is selling Poinsettias. Here’s the contact link if you want to buy one or ten … Questions on how to order? Contact Jeff Garrett at 919.995.8613 or jeff.garrett@allentate.com

Speaking of winners … no, not the Crimson Tide ... Wake Forest Today's Mighty Mighty Hurricanes

Unless you are Bama or Mayor Jones, you can’t win them all, but our fall baseball team, the WFT Mighty Mighty Hurricanes, won a couple.  Led by kid-pitch veterans Braxton “Pork Chop” Reese and Kieran “The Mook” Mukherjee, the team had two solid wins by the end of the season. In all seriousness, the team was young and fall ball is about learning how to play the game not so much about the score. We are proud of the entire team for sticking together to the very end despite a few dismal losses. By the way, Braxton was nicknamed by his little brother and well, I have dreamed all my life that at least one of my sons will have “The Mook” plastered across his jersey on a MLB team, preferably the Atlanta Braves.

Don’t forget to get those Volunteer Coach of the Week nominations into us by midnight on Wednesdays. Your child’s coach could win a $25 gift certificate from Mellow Mushroom and a plaque from Wake Forest Awards and Engraving.
